R2000 House near Calgary for Sale

I interviewed Scott a couple of years ago at his R2000 house in Bragg Creek, Alberta.

Picturesque Bragg Creek is one of my all-time favourite destinations and is the last stop before Kananaskis Country, a 4200 kilometer park system in the foothills and front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. Kananaskis Country is also the home of the Prairie Creek Trail, a 12.1 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail and the major source of my butterfly and wild flower photography.

The expansive windows face the beautiful Kananaskis view

On our visit to the home, I was amazed at the view seen from the large triple-glazed windows.

Built in 2002, this beautiful R-2000 Energy Efficient, 2-Story Split Walk-Out, 5 bedroom home features 14″ walls, hydronic heat and a 90+% efficient central wood-burning fireplace.

This home was built with ultra-low utility bills in mind and the masonry fireplace is of particular interest. These are somewhat different from an old style wood burning unit as Masonry fireplaces are usually made of brick, stone or even tile and connect seamlessly to the flue and chimney as one element. Masonry stoves are designed to burn a hot fire, with the air supply and chimney damper wide open. This results in a clean burn, with little visible smoke. The distinctive feature of the heaters is a series of baffles to pull the heat out of the exhaust. The masonry absorbs the heat of the fire, then radiates it gradually back into the room.

There are many other efficiencies on this 8 acre property including pristine water, hydronic heating as well as excellent cell reception.

You can see the home for yourself as the home is now for sale (available as of this posting – August 2017). There are lots of pictures and pictures available through this link at Realtor.ca.
